Mercury - The Planet

Today we read about the planet Mercury. We discussed the temperature. Also if we were on the planet at night, would we turn into an ice cube? We didn't think so, because we read that there is no weather on the planet and no atmosphere, so probably there is no moisture to freeze. Then we took a quiz and memorized how many earth days its year has and how many hours its day has.

Vikings

Today we watched a movie about vikings, called "Viking Warriors" and we learned about the kinds of villages they raided and the way they did it. We also learned about their religion and how some days of the week are based on the names of the Norse gods, such as Odin, Thor, and Freya. Another thing we learned is how they built their ships and how different their style of building ships was from the ones that were usually built.
We discussed possible factors that encouraged the Vikings to use the sea as their highway for invading foreign lands. Also we discussed how they were able to master the element of surprise that made their raids successful.
